Mukilteo Seniors celebrated

Graduating high school is different this year. Well, last year too, but maybe especially this full year of remote learning.

It has been some time since my senior year of high school in the 1990's, but I can still remember the feeling of it all. Of accomplishment, of ending, of new beginning, of celebration. A certain lightness in the air, especially in the spring as we sped toward our last day.

This year, the traditional events and rituals enveloping high school seniors may be absent. But that's not stopping a group of Kamiak parents from banding together to make sure every senior feels celebrated this year.

I had such a fun time documenting their drive-thru gift bag distribution in January. The weather was perfect, the mood celebratory, and the students and parents excited for a little cheer. How wonderful for these parents to work so hard to give the seniors the feeling of senior year, even though it's not how any of them imagined it would look. Bravo!

One tradition that isn't affected by the pandemic is the senior portrait. Do you have a junior or senior ready to be celebrated through photographs? Any time is a good time for these milestone portraits, and a chance for one more little touch of normal this year. Be in touch if you'd like to get it on the calendar and be ahead of the game for graduation announcements, or even ready for next year's yearbook.

And seniors, congratulations! You deserve all the best and all the celebrating of *you*. Oh, and remember to keep an eye out for the flamingos around town too!
