FAQ
How many photos will I receive?
For family sessions, I will edit the very best of your session, and you will receive an online gallery of 30+ images (and usually more!) presented in color and black & white. From there you don't have to choose a few favorites, they are all yours to keep. You will see a mix of close up, larger group, right up close details, all coming together to tell your story. You receive them via an online digital gallery, allowing you to download and share, and of course print.
What should we wear?
This is a big question! It's important to be you. Husbands, children, everyone should be comfortable. I always suggest coordinated, but not matching. Layering works well too. Avoid logos and characters if possible, as that will keep the focus on faces and connections. Pinterest has lots and lots of inspiration if you like to see ideas.
Again, coordinated but not matching works best. Honestly though, it's more about you, and less about what you wear.
What if it rains?
Yep, here in the PNW this will happen. If it's truly a downpour, we will reschedule. If it's just thinking about raining, we go for it. We will stay in touch and make a final decision the day of your session. Moody skies are beautiful, and some sprinkles won't get in our way.
When will I get my photos?
Within a few weeks of your session, you will receive your online gallery, delivered via email. You are free to download your images, share them, post them to social media, print, make photo albums, etc.
Do I have to order prints through you?
You sure don't. All sessions include a print release.
However, I am passionate about your images getting out of the digital world and into the real one. I will keep reminding you to print! I will recommend printing options that will give you the best results. I am happy to offer professional prints, though you always may print at the lab of your choice.
What if my kids (or spouse) aren't feeling it?
I get it, I have kids too. You've stressed about clothes and hair, discussed expectations and behavior and maybe even threw in a bribe. Kids are still kids. Moods are moods. We will keep it relaxed, have some fun, and honestly, those moody kid pics are sometimes the very best. When it all goes a little wonky, it's the stuff of memories. Don't stress, it's going to be fine.
That said, if you have your heart set on happy smiles and think your kids might not be feeling it, I suggest booking a full family session rather than a petite session. This gives everyone time to warm up, move around, play and have fun without any time pressure.
How long does it take?
Most family sessions will run 45 minutes to one hour. Families are busy and kids can run out of steam fast. We can do a lot, quickly!
Extended family sessions are longer, sometimes much longer depending on family size. Petite sessions are short and to the point! If you have concerns about time, please reach out and I'm happy to help you find what will work best for your family.
When will my session take place?
Any time of year is a good time for family photos! Here in the PNW we work around the weather, and reschedule if it's just too much outside (too much rain, too much heat wave, too much).
Around sunset is best for outdoor photos, and morning or mid-day works well for in-home sessions. If you have a newborn or infant, mid-morning or early afternoon seem to be the best times, but we will work around your baby's schedule too.
Where do we do this?
Indoors or out! Family photos can be extra meaningful if done inside your home or around your yard. For outdoors, we can choose a location that is special to your family, where your kids are comfortable, or I am happy to offer suggestions for some of my favorite places in Everett, Mukilteo and other parts of south Snohomish County.
How does a nursing session work?
We will meet in your home or outdoors. You are free to show as much or as little skin as feels right to you. This 30-minute session is about honoring the bond between you and your baby during this special time. Newborns to toddlers, it's a motherhood milestone that deserves celebration and preservation. You will receive a digital gallery of at least 10 images in color and classic black and white. These are yours to download, print, and share as you'd like.
How do you handle newborn sessions?
Health and safety are my number one priority. This is why I believe so much in in-home lifestyle photography for newborns. You stay in your home, in baby's safe place, and I will come to you. I don't bring props or dramatically pose your baby. You will hold your baby, your partner will hold your baby, and baby will be in the lead for any "posing" that occurs. For me, this is the safest way to photograph newborns, and I also happen to believe it results in the most beautiful, connected, and memorable images of these precious early days.
Siblings are welcome and encouraged to be part of the experience. We will spend up to two hours together so there is time to take care of your baby as needed. Feeding, changing, all of those things, no problem. Your baby can be asleep or awake, so no stress about schedules.
